Recently Meta made a huge announcement with regards to their future plans for ecommerce.
The outcomes will have a huge effect on US based brands, those who will adapt fastest.
Meta is about to make a big play for 'shops'.
And if this is the first time you've heard about it, you're already behind the competition.
Here's what you need to know 👇🏻
A few years ago, TikTok made a big move on Reels.
So Meta responded by going hard on video feeds.
Now, TikTok shops are killing it.
And as you can guess...
Meta doesn't want to let them have all the fun.
So they've rolled out updates to their checkouts and they're preparing to make some serious moves…
Why you should care:
- TikTok's future in the US is hanging in the balance. (More to come on that)
- Meta wants to incentives users to stay on their platform when purchasing, instead of driving to a Shopify storefront.
- Post ios14 changed, on platform shops is “attribution proof” as all the data is on the platform. More data means better targeting for your ads, and better attribution.
Changes for Businesses:
- Effective from April 24, 2024, your shop will be unsupported unless you update your checkout method to On Facebook and Instagram. This change applies to new shops as well.
- Failure to use the On Facebook and Instagram checkout method will result in losing access to features like organic product tagging in posts and new custom and Lookalike Audiences.
- Existing product tags on organic posts will be hidden from viewers, though the posts themselves remain unaffected.
Actions to Take:
- If your shop already uses the On Facebook and Instagram checkout method, no action is needed. Otherwise, update your checkout method promptly.
- Instagram ads with product tags are still available, and businesses running such ads do not need to take any additional steps.
Changes for Customers:
- Since December 21, 2023, web-based Shops features on Facebook are no longer accessible. Customers can now only view your Facebook shop and associated features through the Facebook and Instagram mobile apps.
- Customers from the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, or the UK will experience changes in their Shops' experience.
Remember, the location of your shop is determined by the location of the commerce account associated with it. Ensure your account settings align with these changes.
